How VelvetCrust Began

Baking has always been part of my world — the warm smell of butter and sugar filling the kitchen, the quiet satisfaction of pulling a perfect loaf out of the oven. I am a self-taught baker with over 8 years of hands-on experience, and I have poured every lesson, every mistake, and every happy surprise into the recipes you’ll find here.

I started VelvetCrust because I wanted a place to share what I have learned with home bakers just like you. Whether you are a total beginner or someone who already knows their way around a stand mixer, my goal is simple: help you bake with confidence and bring something beautiful to your table.

Every single recipe on this blog has been tested — and then tested again — in my own kitchen. I include detailed process photos, expert tips, and honest notes so that your bake turns out incredible every time. Think of me as your baking best friend who happens to love spreadsheets and measuring spoons equally.

Here are the questions I get asked the most — I hope they help!

Absolutely not — and that is actually the whole point of VelvetCrust! My early batches were flat, dense, and sometimes a little burnt. Baking is a science, and it takes time to understand the “why” behind every step. After years of practice and a lot of reading, it now feels natural. Like Ratatouille always says — anyone can cook (or in our case, bake)!

Yes — every single one! I bake each recipe at least two or three times before publishing it. I want to be 100% sure it works in a real home kitchen with normal equipment. My daughters (and sometimes Kasper) provide quality control.

Welcome! I’d suggest starting with my classic chocolate chip cookies or a simple vanilla loaf cake — both are beginner-friendly and build great foundational skills. Read the tips section carefully and don’t rush your prep. Baking rewards patience!

The usual culprits are: opening the oven door too early, too much leavening agent, or underbaking. Make sure your oven temperature is accurate (an oven thermometer is a great investment!), don’t peek before the minimum bake time, and always do the skewer test before removing from the oven.
